Guacamole

Today I was in a mood to munch on some chips but wanted to have it with a nice healthy dip. On the weekend when I went to Wegmans I bought some avocados. So I thought of making Guacamole. For those who don’t know, Guacamole is a dip that is made from ripened avocados. It is originally from Mexico. Avocados are excellent in Omega3. It is loaded with healthy fats, fiber, and various essential nutrients. Avocados do not contain any cholesterol or sodium and are low in saturated fat.

 Guacamole Recipe:

To prepare guacamole we need ripened avocados. So press them gently to make sure they are soft which means they are ripened. This classic dip just requires five ingredients. To prepare guacamole we need ripened avocados, tomatoes, onions (optional), jalapeños or green chilies, fresh cilantro (coriander leaves), lime juice and salt to taste.

First, cut the avocados into two and remove the seed. With the help of a spoon gently scoop the avocados into a bowl and mash them up. Leave some chunks in the mash. I used four small avocados for this dip. Squeeze some lime juice into it. Lime adds acid that balances out the fattiness of the avocado fruit.

Then add in finely chopped onions (optional) and tomatoes. Onion offers a savory bite to the dip, so I like to add them. I just used half of a large onion and two tomatoes.  Also, add finely chopped jalapeños or green chilies- whatever is available locally to you (add according to your tolerance for spice)- and some freshly chopped cilantro. Add salt to taste and mix all the ingredients well.

Taste the guacamole and adjust the salt if necessary. Refrigerate it if you want to have it chilled. Guacamole is ready to eat. It can be eaten as a salad or as a stuffing for burritos or wraps. You can have it as a dip with nachos or tortilla chips. Enjoy the healthy and tasty Mexican cuisine which is so easy to make. Happy eating 😀
